2015-01-27      Endurance Programme 2015

Akhal-Teke Endurance

After a successful 2014 debut endurance season, Medeus will be expanding its programme for 2015.  Endurance is an important discipline for Akhal-Tekes and we consider it the foundation of our sports preparation.  Akhal-Tekes were traditionally bred to ride fast at long distances and endurance is therefore an essential feature of the breed.  We want our horses to show notable aptitude at this discipline.  We quitely expect 2015 to be a successful year and hope to begin to break the Arabian stranglehold!

The following horses are scheduled to race in the following classes:

  • Madjima - 60km - 90km and, if all goes well, a 120km race
  • Miskhan - 60km - 90km
  • Paladin - 60km - 90km
  • Damysus - 60km
  • Melija - 60km
  • Arke - 30km - 60km
  • Seraf - 30km - 60km
  • Agyrysyz - 30km - 60km

In addition it is hoped to compete:

  • Perengistan 30km - 60km - 90km - subject to his breeding commitments
  • Melisseus - 30km - 60km
  • Aigle - 30km - 60km

We will not be competing 4-year-olds this year due to the number of 5- and 6-year-old horses we will be racing and also because we have decided to put back our saddle training programme until the middle/end of the 4th year.

The provisional timetable for the beginning of 2015:

  • The first race will be at Piozzano, Piacenza on Sunday 15th February.  This is a beginners race only but is a good soft start to the season.
  • The second race will be at Lurago Marinone, Como on Sunday 1st March.  We hope to have a large group of horses there in both the 30km and 60km classes.
  • Back to Piozzano on Sunday 15th March for the third race of the season.
  • The fourth race will be at Berzio Inferiore, Brescia on Sunday 29th March.  This is a very difficult course traditionally with high elimination rates.  Only the fittest of our horses will be entered.
  • The fifth race will be at Lajatico, Pisa in Tuscany on Sunday 12th April.
  • The sixth race of the year will be at "home" at Castrezzato, Brescia on Sunday 26th April. Here is planned the debut for the first group of horses competing at 90km.
