Akhal-Teke Endurance

Disaster!  As Miskhan was making his way to the vet check for the pre-race check a runaway stallion attacked him placing a hard kick just below his left hip bone.  One inch higher and he would have had a broken hip.  A few inches forward and the rider who was leading him by his halter risked being killed by a kick to the head.

Fortunately, the accident happened in front of the medical tent and immediate assistance by Dr Ursula Schumacher ensured Miskhan was put straight on the road to recovery.  Unfortunately, starting the race was out of the question and Miskhan was retired.  Prognosis seems good and though there is localised swelling no bones are broken.

The owner/handler/rider of the runaway stallion remained completely unapologetic and was subsequently disqualified and received a yellow card for horse abuse.
